ICON Awards 2010 Jim Hanna Memorial Scholarship

The Independent Cattlemen of Nebraska (ICON) announce the awarding of their annual Jim Hanna Memorial Scholarship to Megan Hanna of Thedford, NE.

As a director for Independent Cattlemen of Nebraska (ICON), Jim Hanna worked tirelessly to further the causes he believed in. This scholarship recognizes his relentless dedication to the cattle industry he loved. One of those causes was ICON. Hanna wrote policy, attended legislative hearings, testified on issues important to Nebraska's cattle industry, co-chaired the annual convention, and was an inspiration to the board and to all who knew him. He felt that one man could make a difference and that it was every man's duty to step up and be involved. His passing has left a hole in ICON which is not easily filled.
It is with great pride the ICON organization awards this year's scholarship to Jim's daughter Megan who graduated from Thedford High School and was the valedictorian of her senior class. She plans to attend Doane College and although she is undecided about the direction her future holds, she is interested in pre-med and psychology.

ICON is also reminding Nebraska cattlemen from one end of the state to the other they are sponsoring a bus trip to the USDA/DOJ Workshop in Ft. Collins, CO, on August 27, 2010. The bus ride will be free thanks to ICON and several sponsors and the deadline to sign up for the tour is August 6th. A block of 20 rooms at a rate of $79 for two double beds have been reserved at the Best Western University Inn which is directly across the street from Colorado State University where the workshop for the Livestock Industry is being held.
"Producers showing up in large numbers at the workshop will send a clear message to our government that there is a problem with the current market practices and it needs to be fixed," said ICON Executive Director Destry Brown. "This is a once in a lifetime opportunity. We must make whatever sacrifice is necessary to be at this workshop, the future of our industry depends on our participation."
For more info on rooms and to reserve your seat on the bus please call Destry Brown at 308-458-2244.
