FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE - April 27, 2006

INDEPENDENT CATTLEMEN GEARS UP FOR MAY "BEEF MONTH"

A May 1st R-CALF/ Independent Cattlemen of Nebraska (ICON) rollover auction at Tri-State Livestock in McCook marks the first in a series of such events scheduled throughout the month of May, designated as Beef Month.

The auctions and meetings, joint efforts between ICON and R-CALF USA, will feature varying speakers with "state of the industry" addresses from both organizations, covering issues on the state and national level.

In addition, producers from Texas will be on hand to relay the current situation in their home state which has been recently ravaged by fire, on top of its severe drought. A special focus will be placed on the fundraiser auction to raise money for a rancher-to-rancher relief fund for Texas producers who have lost so much in the million-acre wildfire.

The event at Tri-State Livestock will begin at around 12 -1 P.M. MDT, on Monday, May 1st, and there will be a similar event occurring simultaneously in Gering, NE, hosted by Platte Valley Livestock.

On Wednesday, May 3rd, Ogallala Livestock in Ogallala and Sheridan Livestock in Rushville will each host speakers before fundraiser auctions, also commencing around noon. An evening meeting will follow at Yoba's Tavern in Rushville around 6 P.M, MDT.

R-CALF and Independent Cattlemen of Nebraska encourage everyone in these and surrounding communities to make an effort to attend these events and support the catttle industry. Those who are unable to attend the events this week will have opportunites to attend other events at various locations, to be announced, scheduled throughout May.
