2008 Annual Convention Announcement from the ICON Board of Directors

Hyannis, NE – The Board of Directors of the Independent Cattlemen of Nebraska would like to personally invite you to our 3rd annual convention in Valentine, NE. on Saturday, November 1st, 2008. This years convention will be held in honor of Jim Hanna whom passed away earlier this year. The days activities will be held at the Valentine High School and we are very fortunate to have a super list of speakers on many of the topics and issues challenging our cattle industry today.

The days agenda will start with registration from 8:15 - 9:00 A.M., central time. Government Relations will start at 9:00 A.M. sharp, with a 2 hour panel discussion with State Senators, Cap Dierks, Deb Fisher, Annette Dubas, Mark Christensen and Leroy Louden with Jim Pappas moderating.

At 11:15 A.M., the Animal Health and ID committee will have speakers Max Thornsberry, President of R-CALF USA and Kenny Fox, R-CALF Animal ID Chairman.

At 12:15 P.M. we will have an hour lunch break with the Nollette's from Nenzel,NE. serving roast beef sandwiches. Also at this time we will have Jess Petersen, Director of Government Relations for United States Cattlemen's Association (USCA) update us on current Cattlemen issues taking place in Washington, D.C.

From 1:15 - 2:45 P.M., John Hansen, President of Nebraska Farmers Union, and Graham Christensen, Public Affairs Director for NFU, will speak on carbon credits and wind energy.

From 3:00 - 3:30 P.M., Jess Petersen, USCA, will update and inform on latest happenings with check-off reform bill introduced by Senator John Tester, MT. on Sept. 30th, 2008. This bill was crafted by Jim Hanna.

3:30 - 4:00 P.M. Ann Marie from Nebraska Beef Council will speak on Beef-checkoff.

4:00 - 4:45 P.M. Property Rights with speakers Tanya Storer and Cherry Vinton.

5:00 - 6:00 P.M. Business meeting.

6:00 - 7:00 P.M. Happy Hour at the Cedar Canyon.

7:00 - 9:00 P.M. Banquet. 12 oz. prime rib dinner. Jim Hanna Memorial. Silent Auction. Derry Brownfield from the Brownfield Network, featured speaker.

9:00 P.M. - 1:00 A.M. Convention entertainment. Bree DeNayer and the Haywaddies.

There will be a silent auction throughout the day. Mark this date on your calendar and register by October 20th for $50.00 or $40.00 per person for convention if include 2009 dues of $50.00. Cost to attend banquet is an additional $20.00 per person.
